Picture it. San Francisco. 2020. There I was, excited to ride for what was supposed to be my third and final time - this time with my own team - The Haus of Mockingbird! But like with everything else, Ms. Rona had other plans. After being canceled in 2020, and yet again in 2021 due to COVID, AIDS/LifeCycle is back again, and I cannot tell you just how excited I am to get back on the saddle and raise much needed funds for the SF AIDS Foundation.
In my three years of fundraising for AIDS/LifeCycle, I have raised over $130,000 to fight HIV/AIDS, a feat for which I will always be indebted to my incredible donors. The money we have raised has made a huge and tangible impact. Since I was diagnosed with HIV in 2015, there has been a 55% drop in new HIV invections in San Francisco and 2020 marked a record low for the city with 131 new infections. And as incredible as that is, it is still 131 too many. We can and will get to zero. To help reach this goal, I've set a personal fundraising goal of $20,000, which would bring my grand total to an incredible four year total of $150,000!!!
Lastly, as many of you know, the Ride and the cause it represents, is deeply personal to me. Back in 2016, on my one year anniversary of finding out that I was HIV Positive, I publicly came out by writing my story on Medium (https://medium.com/@nfd/https-medium-com-ten-lessons-ive-learned-during-my-first-year-living-with-hiv-712b973b7ff0). One of my goals of riding once more is to continue raising awareness around HIV, so if you or someone you know is struggling with their status, I'm always available to chat.
Lets finally put an end to HIV/AIDS and the stigma that surrounds it. Thank you again for your continued support!
