Thank you for joining me in this cause!
TogetheRide is a community-wide cycling challenge that is bringing people together, even when we’re physically apart. I am joining thousands of other people and together we will take on the audacious goal of logging a cumulative 1.2 million miles by June 30, 2021. Along the journey, we are raising critical funds to support the work of the Los Angeles LGBT Center and San Francisco AIDS Foundation and create awareness about the ongoing HIV/AIDS epidemic.
Why 1.2 Million miles?
To honor the 1.2 million people in the US living with HIV. Together we are ensuring that all people have access to testing, care, and prevention services.
HIV and AIDS is no longer the death sentence it used to be, however it is still a disease which is spreading and around which there continues to exist a lot of ignorance and stigma. Some of my dearest and closest friends are living with HIV and I see first-hand how this disease has effected them. It's not just the illness. The stigma is just as damaging as the disease itself.
The LA LGBT center, and SF AIDS Foundation do unparalleled work in education, particularly of young people, to spread the message of how to mitigate transmission, but also how and where to seek diagnosis and treatment if needed.
I am doing MY PART to make sure the stigma around this epidemic is irradiated so that not just my friends but all of those who are affected by this disease can live emotionally and psychologically healthy lives.
