ALC 2020 will be my 5th ride. This summer, after some time off the bike, I decided to sign up to become a Training Ride Leader (TRL). After last season and how hard I had to work, and how many people helped me reach my goal of riding.... I decided it was time to give back to my community and especially my Team! I’ve been giving a lot of thought as to what my “reason to ride” is this year..... well thus far my reason has turned out to be three fold.
My first reason is -with all that is going on in the political climate, I feel like it’s paramount to be involved. This community continuously strives to raise awareness, compassion and end stigma of folks living with HIV. Heck, in this environment we are in today -I feel like this same raising awareness and ending stigma is super crucial for folks in the LGBTQ community! To encourage all people to be kind to one another, despite any differences we might have.
My second reason this year, is service. I feel passionate to give back and be of service to people training for this event, and especially to serve my Marin Marauder Team mates. To cheer them on to be the best we can be!
My final reason this year is purely selfish.... I am riding this year for me. To improve my health, to be happy, and to just have a great time and enjoy every minute that I am able to be on my bike riding! I have realized how much I enjoy riding. I love the hard days, the challenge, and the joys of being a part of a team!
Of course my participation in this huge undertaking depends on fundraising. Any amount is greatly appreciated! Even if you can only skip a latte this week and donate that, I will be forever grateful!
Thank you all for reading my blog, and for always supporting me!
In Kindness, Service and Joy,
