Yes, you read that right, it's AIDS LifeCycle Ride time and this year will be my 20th RIDE. It amazes me even as I write this to know that in June I will start my 20th journey from San Francisco to Los Angeles with just my bicycle to get me there. It has been an amazing journey these past 20 years and with that has come the insights, experience, and fond memories of all that makes AIDS LifeCycle special. This year will be a year of milestones for me as well. I turned 50 this past January, and if you asked me if I would still be riding my bicycle 545 miles each June when I started this ride back in 1999, I would have thought you were insane. And yet here we are about to embark on the ride again.
When I think back over those years, it amazes me that I have ridden over 10,000 miles on the AIDS Ride alone. And that does not even take into account the thousands of other miles ridden to train for the ride. I may ride the miles, but cannot make the real magic of the ride happen without your help. And that "real" magic is the millions upon millions of dollars raised each year by generous people just like you.
I am hopeful that I can raise a hefty $40,000 this year to help in this effort. And I need you to help get me there.
I'm also excited to report that after 17 years of riding, my trusty Seven Odonata, it has found a new home in Utah with my nephew and I have a brand new Moots RSL which will be my steed this year. I figured I needed a treat since I did turn 50 and all! And what better way to celebrate than with a new bike! Yeah!!!
So, I ask you to please donate, donate with your whole heart, and donate generously, both I and the thousands of clients of the San Francisco AIDS Foundation will be eternally grateful.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
