In 2011, when I signed up for my first ALC, I had no idea that I’d still be riding and fundraising for this ever-important cause 9 years later. A lot has changed since then…my bike and human parts have a lot more miles on them…and we are in the midst of the worst pandemic in the last 100 years. The 2020 ALC was cancelled, and like many other non-profits, it was a devasting year for ALC fundraising. But the upcoming 2021 Aids Lifecycle ride (named Togetheride) will be like noneother. Anyone who can pedal, be it a tricycle, an indoor bike, a city cruiser, a mountain bike, or the latest racing bike, can participate (Togetheride.com). This year’s goal is to collectively pedal 1.2 million miles between Oct 22, 2020 and June 30,2021 to raise awareness that HIV is still with us AND to raise money to provide free health services for people living with HIV or at risk for HIV. My own personal goal is to pedal 5000 miles and to raise at least $10,000.
In honor of my 65th bday (yup, you read that right), for the next 65 days, I will match every contribution dollar for dollar. That is how important this cause is to me. While any amount, no matter how small or large, is greatly appreciated, I hope this incentivizes you to give as generously as is possible, recognizing that these are unusual times for everyone.
To the people who rely on these services to survive, every dollar counts now, and every dollar brings me one step closer to hitting my goal. As soon as donations are received, they are used to bring much needed health care to the HIV community.
Thank you for making this personal goal a reality for me and for being the support that I need to keep pedaling between now and June 30, 2021. Together, we will make a difference.
