In 1998 and 1999, I rode my bike from San Francisco to Los Angeles in California AIDS Ride. In 2014, I returned to a new and improved AIDS/LifeCycle and rode my bike from SF to LA four more times before joining the staff in 2017 as a Cyclist Rep.
Enter 2020 and Covid-19. The beloved annual ride was cancelled and we still managed to raise over $8.1 Million in the fight to END AIDS.
Not knowing what the future brings, we knew we couldn’t depend on being able to produce a 7 day bike ride in 2021, so here is a new model: TogetheRide!
It’s a new model but the Mission remains the same: Ending AIDS.
TogetheRide is an all ages, mass participation campaign to raise at least $10 Million while riding a collective 1.2 Million miles between now and June 30th, 2021. (1.2 Million is the number of people in the United States who are living with AIDS/HIV, including yours truly.)
The programs of the Los Angeles LGBT Center and the San Francisco AIDS Foundation reach far beyond the borders of California. Because of the education and community support programs that these two astounding organizations provide, the world is learning better ways to abolish this disease and how to better disarm stigma around those who survive with the virus.
San Francisco AIDS Foundation envisions a future where Health Justice is achieved for ALL people living with or at risk for HIV!
