From May 31st to June 6th, I will be joining over 3,000 Cyclists, Roadies and Virtual Cyclists to participate in AIDS/LifeCycle, a 545-mile bike ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles to raise funds for the life-saving services offered by San Francisco AIDS Foundation and the Los Angeles LGBT Center. The services provided from this event mean the world to those who receive them, and your support means the world to me.
WHY I’M RIDING: The short answer to this question is, "Fiona". You can learn more about her here: http://www.tofighthiv.org/goto/fdunbar. This will be my third AIDS/LifeCycle ride after a 12-year hiatus and I am very excited to take on the physical challenge of training for the ride, and raising much needed funds for organizations that have served my Community for decades.
Another reason I am riding is to celebrate my turning 50 this year. And though I have done this ride before, I could not have imagined that it would be something I'd train for again over a decade later, but I can, so I will! Though I celebrate a personal milestone, there is also the stark reality that HIV/AIDS still exists.
In the U.S. alone, an estimated 38,000 people contract HIV each year, across the globe 1,800,000 people contract HIV each year. Since the beginning of the pandemic, nearly 78,000,000 people have been infected with HIV and about 39,000,000 people have died of AIDS-related causes.
Among many things, the AIDS/LifeCycle event brings together Community, resources and awareness to fight this decades-long pandemic. We’re working together to make HIV/AIDS a thing of the past. Will you support me by making a donation today?
THE IMPACT OF YOUR DONATION: Every dollar counts, and no gift is too small. Please help me reach my goal to raise $5,000. Thank you!
Individuals served by the SF AIDS Foundation and LA LGBT Center are beneficiaries of funds raised. These organizations serve as models of care and prevention around the world, so your donation also impacts efforts to end AIDS globally.
