“Behind every rider, a person is Living A Great Story.”
I’m Riding in AIDS/LifeCycle 2020 and Committed to raising $15K!
This year, my own great story has taken on a new meaning. I have been selected to be an ‘Everyday Hero’ as part of the Desert AIDS Project’s World AIDS Day ‘Everyday Heroes: Individuals Who Inspire’ event. I’m humbled and filled with gratitude that my service to our community through the years, and across many diverse areas of interest, have shown that anyone can create and live their own story just by being present, listening, being of service, and contributing; however, they can.
My Continuing Story and Journey
On May 31, 2020, I will be participating in AIDS/LifeCycle, a 545-mile, seven-day bike challenge from San Francisco to Los Angeles.
I look forward to completing the ALC 2020 challenge as I will turn the page into my 59th year and my 27th anniversary since contracting HIV. I am keenly aware of the immense need to understand and explore how aging with HIV can affect your body, mind, soul, and healthy longevity. To this end, I am genuinely committed!
2020 also represents 20 years since I last road this route with California AIDS Ride 7 to raise funds and awareness to support lifesaving HIV/AIDS resources and services. It seems like only yesterday, though. I’ve supported HIV/AIDS services, research, and many, many riders, over all these years, and this issue and watching them live their own great stories inspire me still. ALC is one of the most challenging things that I’ve ever attempted, but it’s also the most rewarding.
My life is one filled with friendships, successes, love, failures, HIV related health issues, and many wonderful adventures, and I honor the path that has led me here. To say that it’s been a challenge is true, but I wouldn’t have changed much along the way as it’s led me to be who I am today as I strive to Live My Own Great Story and face the journey before me.
The AIDS/LifeCycle is also much more than just a fundraising event. It's about increasing awareness and changing lives by empowering individuals and providing hope to those in need. We're riding for ourselves, our friends, family members, and the many who have suffered from this terrible disease. We ride for all the men, women, and children who won't have to suffer in the future because of the efforts we are making today.
