BEAT THE EPIDEMIC
The LGBTQ community has understood the meaning of the words 'epidemic' for decades. The last couple of years have brought the rest of the population up to speed.
We've been fighting HIV/AIDS for 40 years.
The same issues around shame, stigma, fear, avoidance and doubt are mirrored in people's attitudes towards COVID-19.
If empathy was lacking, hopefully it's a silver lining of the devastation of the last 2 years, which can now be put to good use.
We can end AIDS, but until we do, we need AIDS/LifeCycle.
I am riding AIDS/LifeCycle 2022. Having packed up and shipped across the Atlantic from California to Spain, I will have to train independently of my team Hot Wheels, something new and daunting. I'll also have to get myself, my gear and bike, across the Atlantic (and back) to be able to take part. That aint gonna be cheap, but I'm doing it; your donations DO NOT finance that, I do.
HIV and AIDS doesnt ever take a back seat, but what compels me to continue raising money for this cause, is that under-represented segments of society are under increased threat of marginalization and oppression, a reversal of the trend I have seen through out my lifetime, and I am scared. It's gotten worse through the pandemic.
The Los Angeles LGBT Center and San Francisco AIDS Foundation - the beneficiaries of AIDS/LifeCycle are beacons of hope for the LGBTQ+ community. Not just in the fight against HIV and AIDS, but in the protection, advocacy and advancement of our visibility, rights, protection and freedom.
Please give whatever you can spare. Every $5, $20 and $50 counts. It all adds up.
June 5th - June 11th 2022, is ALC week. The 545-mile route from San Francisco to Los Angeles will be filled with cyclists and roadies, coming together once again to support the life-saving services offered by San Francisco AIDS Foundation and the Los Angeles LGBT Center.
More than ever the work they do is under threat, and the services they provide are essential, so I committed to this cause once again, despite living 100s of miles away, to continue raising money. The income from this vital funding stream has been severly impacted. Let's try to begin to undo that.
Please donate whatever you can afford. It all adds up.
Thanks so much for your support!
