Why I'm going to ride 545 miles (877KM) from SF to L.A:
One of the best moments of the ride for me happened when we were already in Santa Monica, On our last 20 miles before coming back home. When we stopped on the red light, cars started rolling down their windows and asking: "hey, what's is this? Are you guys in some kind of a race?" “We just rode from SF to LA on our bicycle, to end AIDS, and bring visibility to our LGBTQ brothers and sisters.” We answered.
All of a sudden all the cars around us, and pedestrians started honking and applauding us! We were engulfed with love.
I was in tears, and so are all the riders who witnessed it.
That's why I'm riding. That's why it's important. As our brothers and sisters of color, the Jewish and Muslim faith, and our own LGBTQ community are being attacked by White Supremacist (and lets face it, the Republican party). The way to combat that is by riding our bicycle while being out and proud, and show that we are vital members of society.
Another reason to ride are these amazing organizations that this ride support. Both the LGBTQ Center of L.A and the SF Aids foundtation are in the front line of our community, providing health care, and support to our brothers and sisters.
With you, and thank you,
