In 2018, I participated in AIDS/LifeCycle, raising over $13,000 for the San Francisco AIDS foundation AND conquering my phobia of riding bicycles. I was unable to ride in the 2019 ALC because of my school calendar. Still, I co-captained my team, the notorious Pedal Pups, and together, we raised over $125,000! And then came time to sign up for 2020. I was so excited to ride with the Pups again. I was training and fundraising and co-captaining... Well, we all know how that went. But the Pedal Pups kept fundraising, and I am proud to report that even without riding, we raised over $74,000! And I was the #1 fundraiser for the year!
This year, 2020-21, ALC made the tough decision to cancel the physical ride again, but instead has a new riding initiative. It's called TogetheRide! TogetheRide is a community-wide cycling challenge that is bringing people together, even when we’re physically apart. Thousands of people are banding together to join TogetheRide and take on the audacious goal of logging a cumulative 1.2 million miles by June 30, 2021. Along the journey, we are raising $5,000,000 in critical funds to support the work of the Los Angeles LGBT Center and San Francisco AIDS Foundation and create awareness about the ongoing HIV/AIDS epidemic.
