I am so excited to share that after taking a year off to move to Albuquerque, I'm riding in the AIDS Lifecycle again this coming year in 2020!
This year, I’m celebrating so many successes and two that I’ve unfortunately lost to this dreaded disease.
I’m celebrating my marriage to Brian, my move to New Mexico, my new role at Presbyterian Healthcare Services, where I’m already having an impact on the lives of many. I’m celebrating the lives of two of my friends. While they are no longer with me in person, they are with me in spirit and I will carry their pictures with me along the 545-mile route from San Francisco to Los Angeles.
Fundraising this year is the most important it has been in so many years. Federal funding is being cut or re-routed and so all the gains that we have made in the reduction of new HIV infections, we are fearing will be lost. We spend the most money on healthcare and yet we have one of the worst societies when it comes to health.
Here are some facts:
1) The beneficiary organizations help people pay for medical insurance, which reduces the burden on public insurance sources like Medicaid and Medicare - If you think about it, the less burden on these systems will keep them around a bit longer for the rest of us when we need it.
2) $5000 funds a mobile testing unit for a full year? This is a unit that goes out into the economically and socio-economically challenged areas and brings testing and awareness to groups that would otherwise not have access to it. This testing unit allows people to get tested without fear of retribution or ridicule. Early detection is the key, like it is with any disease or affliction.
.Again this year, you can make a larger donation and spread your donation payments over as many as 10 months. If you can afford to skip 5 Starbucks coffee drinks a month, you may wish to donate $30 monthly for 10 months. 10 payments of $30 and that is $300. All of which is tax deductible to the extent that you can take the deductions.
And, new this year is a donation matching tool - find out if your employer matches your donation! https://www.aidslifecycle.org/matching-gifts
A Facebook page will be published soon. I’ll let you know when it’s ready as this will be the place I communicate with you while on the ride. My donors in 2018 told me it was the BEST thing about my efforts because they felt like they were there, so I’m going to continue the tradition this year.
Thank you for your consideration. With your help, I’ll reach the required fundraising minimum of $3000!
