I'm back at it, taking countless early mornings to train for 545 miles from San Francisco to Los Angeles.
Just after finishing the 2018 ride, during San Diego pride, we lost a beautiful soul, Kelly Kauffman, to cancer, for whom I ride this year. Seeing your partner John the day after, out celebrating your life, gave me the courage to shed some tears but also realize we must continue to live for everyone whom was forced to leave us too early. For you we celebrate life and keep John smiling with your memory.
I also ride for every one who has touched my life who is HIV+. 30 years ago, you would have told me on your death bed and I would be saying goodbye forever as I would watch a painful last few breaths from you. But today, you can enjoy life to the fullest without being HIV+ defining you.
Every year, AIDS/LifeCycle starts with the procession of the riderless bicycle to honor those who entered the race to manage and cure HIV/AIDS before we were able to not lose. While we still haven't won the race to the cure, we are no longer losing. Until the day we win this vital race, you can find me on my bike.
AIDS/LifeCycle provides vital services to those who are lost on this course or don't even know they are on it yet. Without these services, we will begin to lose again. It is because of your donations that we can pedal down the coast, every stroke making a difference. Visit my page by clicking "Sign Up" today!
