Thank you for joining me in this cause!
Yes - from June 5 to June 11, 2022 I will be riding my bike for 545 miles from San Francisco to Los Angeles to raise funds for the life-saving services offered by San Francisco AIDS Foundation.
Why did I sign up for this?
In 1984, I started my internal medicine residency in San Francisco. This was at the beginning of the AIDS crisis. It was a dramatic period - I admitted and cared for many patients with AIDS. At that time, there was only supportive care, and to watch patients die painfully, rapidly, and with little hope is something that never left me. These deaths were needless. Medical care and research have drastically improved the lives of those with HIV. The disease is still with us, and disproportionately affects those with limited access to health care. The funds provided by this ride goes for prevention, testing, and treatment.
I am doing this ride because I feel I must. I became an avid road cyclist starting in 2010. When I first heard of AIDS/Lifecycle and how the distance is 545 miles, I thought, this is a task I can do easily. Hence, I'm obligated to make the world a better place. Can you support me in this goal and make a donation? Thank you so much.
