Thank you for joining me in this cause!
June 2th - June 8th, over 3,000 Cyclists, Roadies and Virtual Cyclists will be participating in AIDS/LifeCycle, a 545-mile bike ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles to raise funds for the life-saving services offered by San Francisco AIDS Foundation and the Los Angeles LGBT Center. This year, I’ll be one of them!
The newly-designed logo fro the ride is "Ride--Love--Live" and I couldn't think of anything that captures why I ride better.
Ride: The ride itself has meaning. If you've followed my route before, you know I love to stop and talk with many of the family members of people who have died of AIDS who line the route with pictures of their loved ones. For too many of them, their beloveds died with a merciless public shaming them. To see 2,500 out, loud, supporters of the HIV community riding down the coast of California brings enromous comfort to many of these family members who continue to grieve.
Live: The ride helps so many people to live. The funds we raise pays for so much treatment and prevention. Patients who show up to the Center and Foundation get the treatment they urgently nee first and worries about insurance later.
Love: Every day of the ride is filled with love. But it continues all year when you see how the funds we raise are used. As one vivid example, I've toured the LALGBT Youth Center, which is a place of refuge for the many queer youth frpm across the country who make the pilgrimage to Hollywood when the parents who should be providing unconditional love fail to do so. These hurting kids make their way to the place they've heard will welcome them, but find the big city is a hard, dangerous place to live. At the Youth Center, they are given emergency shelter if they need it. And every day every youth who shows up will recieve food, guidance and the tender voice of love. That guidance and love stands solidly between many of these kids and HIV infection.
I hope you join me in this journey of riding, living and loving. If you can't get on a bike and literally go with me, maybe you can contribute financially and share in my journey through Facebook?
We’re working together to make HIV/AIDS a thing of the past. Will you support me by making a donation today?
