Thank you for joining me in ending HIV/AIDS!
In 2019 I rode all 545 miles of the AIDS/Lifecycle and I’m excited to be doing it again in 2022! I thought the training and riding was going to be the hardest part, but it turned out that it was the fundraising the most challenged me. So this year, I’m aiming to improve on 2019 and raise at least $5000 for the life-saving services offered by San Francisco AIDS Foundation and Los Angeles LGBTQ Center.
Money raised for AIDS/LifeCycle has an impact in your hometown, not just in California. both the San Francisco AIDS Foundation and Los Angeles LGBT Center are pioneers in HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment and advocacy efforts that are applied nationally. The work of both organizations helps to develop practices that make local efforts across the country more effective. Prevention programs like those first developed in San Francisco and Los Angeles are estimated to have averted over 1 million infections nationwide since 1978. With your donation, you're helping people around the country, and indeed, beyond.
I'm riding to support not only improved access and treatment for all people, but especially for people in my transgender community who are affected by HIV/AIDs.
Transgender people are diagnosed with HIV at a rate 3x the general population. Trans women are particularly affected - around a quarter of transgender women have the disease including an estimated 60% of black trans women (less than 1% of the general population has HIV). Transgender people also typically have a harder time accessing appropriate medical care. The two beneficiary organizations offer vital trans specific HIV care as well as general medical care and other services.
The services provided as a result of this event mean the world to those who receive them, and your support means the world to me.
We’re working together to make HIV/AIDS a thing of the past. Will you support me by making a donation today?
