Why I ride.... I did my first ALC in 2019. I rode EVERY. SINGLE. MILE. All 545 baby! It was one of the hardest challenges I ever faced. It was as much physical as mental. But I have the privilege of living a tough life 7 days a year and not having to face so many of the things that my fellow ALC riders endure. I ride so that there are services for those who need them. I ride because I can. I ride for those who can not.
It was truly amazing and eye-opening to see all of the encouraging cheering that went on all along the route. So many people stood outside all day to thank us. And, I will never forget rolling out of Cow Palace to the cheers of everyone lining the route. I had worked all year to be ready- and so many were so grateful.
I wasn't entirely sure I'd ride again until I got home and realized that there was no way that I could give up. I ride to end AIDS. I ride to erase the stigma associated with HIV. I ride for medical and healthcare services that are so important for vulnerable people.
