Thank you for helping support my decision to do the scariest thing I have ever done!!!
Friends, family, lovers, and people I haven't spoken to since my high school graduation- thanks for visiting my page! June 3rd - June 8th, over 3,000 Cyclists, Roadies and Virtual Cyclists will be participating in AIDS/LifeCycle- a 545-mile bike ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles to raise funds for the life-saving services offered by San Francisco AIDS Foundation and the Los Angeles LGBT Center.
This year, I’ll be one of them! My legs already hurt.
The services provided as a result of this event mean the world to those who receive them, and your support means the world to me and countless people.
Did you know that there is HIV preventative medication (PrEP) that reduces the risk of getting and transmitting HIV by 99%? Did you also know that without health insurance, it can cost more than $1,600 per month or $19,200 per year? This medication could wipe out HIV in America, but it remains inaccessible to many who need it most! That is *extremely Gwen Stefani voice* B-A-N-A-N-A-S.
Did you know that on any given day, there are 6000 LGBTQ homeless youth living in Los Angeles? OR that there are 68% of the city's 65,000 LGBT seniors live alone? More than others their age, LGBT seniors struggle to afford housing because they're four times less likely to have children and grandchildren to support them and twice as likely as their heterosexual counterparts to live alone.
The AIDS/ LifeCycle benefits not only preventative efforts, but importantly provides much needed assistance to homeless youth, seniors, those living with HIV, and those at high risk! With your support the San Francisco AIDS Foundation and the Los Angeles LGBT Center can and WILL provide their HIV-related services for FREE 365 days a year.
OK. I'm done being earnest, I promise!!! I am promising to be absolutely miserable for 6 days biking down California and I would love your support so we can make HIV/AIDS a thing of the past!
