Thank you for joining me in this cause!
May 31 - June 6th I was supposed to ride my bike 545 miles from San Francisco to Los Angeles to support the life-saving services offered by San Francisco AIDS Foundation and the Los Angeles LGBT Center, in the fight to end HIV/AIDS.
Unfortunately the official ride is canceled this year but the fight against HIV/AIDS is not! I am still going to ride! I'm trying to ride the full 545 miles between May 29th and June 4th, all around the Bay Area, without taking time off work. It's going to be a real challenge cramming in those miles before and after work, especially with those Bay Area hills, but I wanted to make it a real challenge for myself to justify my challenging of YOU to donate!
While AIDS/LifeCycle 2020 will not be taking place in the format you're used to, your donations are still vital. The work of San Francisco AIDS Foundation and Los Angeles LGBT Center continues and will only become more critical as this pandemic continues to unfold. Both organizations have quickly moved to adapt as the needs of our community change and grow. The Foundation is providing virtual support groups, mental health services, and social support to our senior populations, people who use substances, and people living with and at risk for HIV. As a first-responder for our community, the Center is providing direct support to LGBT seniors and youth, including housing and meals, and continues to provide uninterrupted HIV and AIDS medical care along with virtual support for mental health care and social networking groups. Our communities still need the critical services the Foundation and Center provide, and these organizations need our support.
To me, AIDS/LifeCycle was to be the victory lap for us all. The celebration of the heroic efforts we have all put forth to support the work of these incredible organizations. And while I am heartbroken to not be saddling up with 2,500 Cyclists and 500+ Roadies, I know that our impact is still one of herculean proportions and I am so grateful I am still able to ride.
Please consider donating. No amount is too small (or too big). Ask your employer if they have a matching fund program. And ask your friends and family to consider donating, they may have been affected by HIV/AIDS and would like to support this cause too!
Thank you for supporting me this season and helping to ensure that people are receiving the care needed to live full and healthy lives. The fight to end AIDS continues.
