In 2020, May 31 - June 6th, over 3,000 Cyclists, Roadies and Virtual Cyclists will be participating in AIDS/LifeCycle, a 545-mile bike ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles to raise funds for the life-saving services offered by San Francisco AIDS Foundation and the Los Angeles LGBT Center. This year, I’ll be one of them!
I will be riding for my friend, Mondo, who we lost – not because he had the AIDS virus, but due to the shame he felt as a result of his diagnosis. The stigma he feared caused him to keep his diagnosis from those who loved him and would have gladly helped him. Mondo’s pride, and silence prevented him from receiving life-saving treatment. The stigma that killed my friend is the same stigma experienced by 50,000 newly infected HIV-positive people in the US each year. Until we live in a world where these people are free from judgement and marginalization, I will continue to speak up (and ride!) for those like Mondo, who can no longer speak for themselves.
We’re working together to raise awareness, and make HIV/AIDS a thing of the past.
Please join me in this effort by making a donation to this worthy cause. Thank you!
