Thank you for taking time to visit my page, and learn more about why this birthday milestone I have decided to forgo an over the top birthday party, and ride 545 miles, over 7 days, from San Francisco to Los Angeles, to raise critically needed funds for HIV/AIDS-related services and bring to light the fact that HIV/AIDS is still a devastating disease in our society, particularly the LGBT community and communities of color.
I am riding for the individuals who have been affected by HIV/AIDS, both present and those that have passed. In particular, I am riding for Patrick Anthony Crosby. I did not have the pleasure to meet, Patrick, but I have heard from his loved ones that he was a beautiful, compassionate, and loving soul. Lighting up a room was never difficult for him, and while his light is no longer present with us, his spirit continues to live on, just look to the sun to find his warmth. In many ways, Patrick's loving soul reminds me of my own.
As many of you know, my education, work, life have always been centered on the premise of helping others. I am often lectured (always with good intentions, and by many of you) that sometimes I need to put myself before others. But you already know, that is one of my biggest challenges. It’s hard for me to say no. BUT it's because I am constantly reminded of how blessed I am. In reflecting on the abundance of love I receive from all of you, and counting the many blessings I have, I couldn’t have thought of a better way to celebrate my 30th birthday, then to participate in this year’s AIDS Life Cycle (June 2 – June 8).
I’m raising $10,000 as a new rider. Why? Because I am going BIG for THIRTY.
I’ll take care of the hard part, riding the 545 miles; luckily, I have my guardian angel, Patrick. But below are ways YOU can help me reach my fundraising goal, and assist those affected by HIV/AIDS.
$30 [Birthday Cadence]
Im only turning 30 once, meaning I have the best excuse to throw an over the top birthday party like no other. Besides, 30 means you get to be your most flirty-self, or you can finally afford a mortgage (pfft, not in California). HOWEVER, I’m skipping out on the OTT party, and definitely won’t be purchasing a home this year (flirty is still on the table :: wink wink::). Instead, I am riding 545 miles from SF to LA to raise money for the San Francisco AIDS foundation and the Los Angeles LGBT CENTER.
---Donations at this tier are more than just a gift, it is providing services health services, social services, and housing for some of Los Angeles’ most disenfranchised. But more importantly YOU are helping bring COMPASSION, instead of fear; LOVE, instead of hate.
$50 [Chamois Cream Friend a.k.a “Butt Butter Friend”]
545 miles is A LOT of mileage, so you can only imagine the amount of friction my bum is going to receive. Thankfully, the padded chammy in my bibs will help reduce some of that friction, but only SOME. Cyclists use “butt butter” to prevent saddle sores, or even worse, medical attention that may keep me off my bike for several days.
---Donations at this tier ensure that my bum, and any other discomfort down below, are prevented. My bum, and everything below, thank you!
$100 [Very Important sPoke]
Spokes are the wire rods that connect the center of the wheel, or hub, to the outer edge or rim. A spoked wheel provide strength to wheels which gives solid support to wheels during cycling and have only a fraction of the weight. Much like spokes, V.I.(s)P.s provide my fundraising pledge the needed support to achieve it.
---Donations at this tier are provided by individuals who hold a special place in my heart. You have either served as a friend, mentor, loved one, or have been there when I’ve hit my lows (too many to mention).
NO DONATION IS TOO BIG OR SMALL. If you’re a student, donate $5.45 (a penny for every mile I’m riding), or if you’re a BIG BALLER, $545 (with all that money to spare, its basically pennies)
Will you support me by making a donation today?
