Someone’s status should NEVER define them, but how you choose to make them feel because of it will always define you. #ENDstigma #UequalsU
I’ve watched friends, loved ones & MY OWN PARTNER struggle living with HIV. No, they’re no struggling with opportunistic infections, low T-cells, or pneumonia...they’re struggling with depression, anxiety & fear. Fear that a romantic interest will reject them...fear of checking the HIV status box on the online dating site...fear that uneducated friends & family will abandon them...fear that a simple health questionnaire will lead to assumptions, judgements & shame.
Thankfully, an HIV diagnosis is no longer a death sentence...because fundraisers like this have enabled valuable research for our current life-saving therapies. However, we still don’t have a cure...massive sections of population remain at risk due to lack of education...and not everyone is receiving the treatment & services they require.
I’m riding for prevention, treatment & awareness. I’m riding to show the world that sero-discordant relationships - like mine - can be loving & fulfilling. Most importantly...I’m riding to support my partner & show him that I wouldn’t change a thing.
“Be the change you want to see in the world.”
From May 31st to June 6th, over 3,000 Cyclists, Roadies and Virtual Cyclists will be participating in AIDS/LifeCycle, a 545-mile bike ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles to raise funds for the life-saving services offered by San Francisco AIDS Foundation and the Los Angeles LGBT Center. This year, I’ll be one of them!
The services provided as a result of this event mean the world to those who receive them, and your support means the world to me.
We’re working together to make HIV/AIDS a thing of the past. Will you support me by making a donation today?
