I was diagnosed with HIV by Army doctors in 2009 during a routine flight physical. Immediately, breaking all HIPA laws, Command blasted my status out to the Battalion and told me they were going to separate me under a medical chapter. There was no counselling and I was overwhelmed by the gravity of my diagnosis and losing my livelihood so I turned to drugs and alcohol to cope. My mental and physical health spiraled downward until I found recovery in 2011 and started going to the Los Angeles LGBT Center where, having no insurance and no income, they provided me with individual counselling and HIV medication and care. The LA LGBT Center was the support to make me whole again.
This is why I'm taking on this personal and physical callenge of epic proportions, facing my self doubt and fear head on, to raise money for the LA LGBT Center...they were there for me and many others in a way that other organizations couldn't be to help me deal with my self-hatred and self-homophobia.
ANY AMOUNT HELPS! So please give what you can, it all adds up.
Thank you once again for your support. I really appreciate it.
