The main purose is to raise funds for the San Francisco AIDS Foundation and the Los Angeles LGBT Center. My own personal reasons are to show that depression & mental health issues can be beaten. I'm part of Trudging Buddies, a sober cycling team. With every training ride and meeting we support each other in our road to recovery.
I've never been a cyclist before so this is a big challenge for me. Every mile that I'm riding to build up my fitness & endurance gives me a sense of purpose & success.

Commute to work
To bump up my training for ALC, I'm participating in a 5 week nutrition and workout challenge at my gym, Pharos Athletic Club. My prescribed workouts are full on but they all contribute towards increasing my fitness and strength for ALC.
Today I did a 6m weight training workout and then cycled 11.2 miles to work. This was the first time that I have cycled to work and it certainly won't be the end. It was a good ride!

34 mile ride with Team Bob
Yesterday I completed my longest ride yet!
The route was around North East LA including Elysian Park & the LA river which is where I usually cycle.
I just wanted to give it my best, but without realizing it, I ended up with the front riders from team Bob. It was a pleasure to meet these guys that included me in their small pack of front riders.
What shocked me the most was my own ability & endurance. I'm proud of how well I did. I was expecting my energy/legs to decrease at some point but even with the 2 inclines near the end, I made it to the top.
Progress, not perfection.
My short term goal is to get to $1000 in the next week...

First training ride
So this past Sunday I went on my first group training ride with the Hotwheels team. I've never cycled with other people before so this was new to me. Cycling in a team is like a well oiled machine moving along swiftly along the road, changing lanes & moving as a unity.
The day wasn't without surprises. I had a flat tyre as we got to Marina Del Rey. After complications with first the valve and then the tubing, it took 3 tubes to finally change the tyre.
I enjoyed my first group ride & i know there are maaaany more to come..
