The people at Gilead Sciences are honored to be able to take part in the TOGETHERIDE, which is taking the place of the ALC ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles, in what would have been our 7th year fielding a team of riders and roadies. COVID-19 has changed this experience but not our commitment.
From 2014 to 2020, the members of Team Gilead raised over $1,000,000. Our co-workers, family and friends were very generous in their support, and we're grateful that HIV and AIDS became front-of-mind for so many. At Gilead, we've been discovering and developing novel treatments for HIV for many years, and more recently we have added significant scientific efforts in HIV prevention and cure. While people around the world use and benefit from the treatments developed by Gilead scientists, we recognize that the needs of people living with HIV are as great now as ever. So much progress has been made in prolonging and improving the lives of people living with HIV and AIDS.
This year the TOGETHERIDE goal is to log 1,200,000 miles, representative of the 1.2 Million people living with HIV in the US, but also raising awareness around the world.
In years past we have had 30 member of Team Gilead, and we'd like to significantly increase that this year. In the past people have said they wanted to join but couldn't take the time off work, were afraid to raise a minimum of $3,000, or wished there children under 18 could join. All of those concerns are lifted this year, in that riding will take place wherever you are, whenever you can (including rides on stationary bikes), there is no minimum amount needed to be raised, and anyone in the family can ride. So we look forward to building a team with great comradery, a shared purpose, and an ability to continue to contribute to these great organizations.
We're glad to be a part of this community and to continue to advance the science until we have a cure. We're here with you for the whole ride!
Go Team Gilead!!
