Thank you for joining me in this cause!
May 31 - June 6th, 2020 over 3,000 Cyclists, Roadies and Virtual Cyclists were to participate in AIDS/LifeCycle, a 545-mile bike ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles to raise funds for the life-saving services offered by San Francisco AIDS Foundation and the Los Angeles LGBT Center. I signed up for this adventure on Day 6 of AIDS LifeCycle 2019, almost a year ahead!
The services provided as a result of this event mean the world to those who receive them, and I am proud to be a part of this effort. We are working together to make HIV/AIDS a thing of the past. Participating in AIDS LifeCycle 2019 was a wonderful life changing experience for me: I felt closer to the community I live in, but also I felt honored to show my support as I rode every mile to LA, something I hadn't imagined possible mere months earlier. I felt awed and inspired to do this again!
On March 17, AIDS LifeCycle 2020 was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This is unprecedented. The ride went on every year since 1994. While I am disappointed to miss the athletic challenge and the sense of community during the events, my heart breaks for the communities AIDS LifeCycle supports! Nobody canceled the work in HIV/AIDS care and prevention that needs to be done.
The organizers made a responible decision to cancel the ride now, for the safety of the riders in training, the communities along the route, and to cut the losses early. But this happened just as the fundraising would have sped up, in the middle of the training season! Just when the vulnerable communities supported by SF AIDS Foundation and LA LGBT Center need more social and healthcare services, not less, the healthcare system is about to be overwhelmed. We can't stop now. I stand with AIDS LifeCycle.
Will you support me by making a donation today?
I will match every donation between March 17 and June 6, 2020, until I reach $5K
