Three years ago, I signed up for my first ALC and my life has never been the same. My team, The Bearded Ladies, is an incredible group of individuals, each with unique traits and who bring something positive and uplifting to the group. Together, we have cummulatively raised over $100,000! This year, my goal is to raise more money than ever and let me tell you why...
The experience, from start to finish, has been one of the most rewarding and challenging experiences of my life. I learned the importance of being mentally strong, but also understanding when I most needed the help of those around me. Now, as in the past, I spend most of my weekends training for what I know is a difficult journey. But, the best thing that has happened over the course of the years is experiencing the love that people can give. The outpouring of love, encouragement, kindness, and support that I feel was and still is immeasurable. From simple texts and long hugs, to iced tea on long rides and quick talks; the community, my community, walks with me through it all.
And, in June of 2019, I will fly to San Francisco and continue the journey for my third time. But, I can only do it BECAUSE OF PEOPLE LIKE YOU! The bike ride, the amazing journey that I am going to be taking part in, is just the culmination of months of preparation. The AIDS/LifeCycle is a year-long, never-ending fundraiser...and the ride is just an added bonus! It's a celebration of the tens of thousands of lives that have been affected by HIV/AIDS, it's a "thank you" to YOU for the donations you have made, and it's a promise that no matter how hard things get, we keep riding and fighting. All of us that ride, we don't do it for ourselves, we do it because we know that we can find a cure for HIV/AIDS and we raise money because we believe that A CURE WILL BE FOUND IN OUR LIFETIME!
My inspiration has come from many places, including YOU. The simple fact that you are here, reading these words, tells me that you care and want to make an impact.
The Bearded Ladie is comprised of many wonderful, beautiful souls. Between all of us, we hope to raise $40,000 in the fight against HIV/AIDS this year. Yes, we are small, but MIGHTY.
